In our first professional development module<\/a>, we demonstrated that feedback is essential to learning. We think about feedback-rich classrooms as \u201csafe and smart\u201d learning contexts, or classroom communities in which students feel comfortable enough to risk engaging and learning with each other.<\/p>\n

To know if the feedback-rich environment is having its desired impact on learning, Eli Review watches for important writer behaviors and gives teachers rich reports of student engagement.<\/p>\n\"Like<\/a>\n

As spring courses wind down, active Eli instructors can see data (compiled during formative assessment<\/a>) that inform their summative assessments of individual students and the class as a whole. This series aims to demonstrate how to investigate your own course to draw evidence-based conclusions about learning.<\/p>\n

In our Twitter feed<\/a> and in our blog posts over the next weeks, we will model how to use the engagement data in Eli Review<\/a> to answer two key questions:<\/p>\n

  2. To what extent was this feedback-rich environment helpful?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    We\u2019ll share Eli\u2019s analytic reports from Bill Hart-Davison\u2019s active Technical Writing course. Bill has previously shared his reviews tasks for this course in our Curriculum Resources<\/a>; you can add them to your library<\/a>, if you\u2019d like.<\/p>\n

    To start, we\u2019ll focus on two reports, the Engagement Highlights<\/a> and Trend Graphs<\/a> available in Eli\u2019s Course Analytics. Though we\u2019ll use the live data from Bill\u2019s class, you can use these features with your current and previous classes, too, by following these steps:<\/p>\n

    1. Click on the name of a current or previous course from your Course Dashboard.<\/li>\n
    2. From the course homepage, click the \u201cAnalytics\u201d link. \u201cEngagement Highlights\u201d are shown first.<\/li>\n
    3. To see the “Trend Graphs”, click that tab. Access different graphs using the dropdown menu.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\"How<\/a>\n
